Is your Rudraksha genuine? Why one home test cannot settle the question

A bead sinking in water is not enough to prove that it is genuine Rudraksha or verify its mukhi count. Home tests are limited. Before buying, ask about the actual bead, the seller’s description and any documentation offered with it.

Authenticity and spiritual meaning are also separate questions. A genuine natural object does not establish that every benefit claimed in an advertisement will follow from wearing it.

Look beyond a dramatic demonstration

Videos often make identification seem instant. In practice, surface appearance can be altered, and a single physical behaviour can have more than one explanation. Do not damage a bead with heat, cutting or chemicals because a social post calls it a reliable test.

Ask for clear photographs showing the item from several angles. If the listing uses a representative photograph, check whether the purchased bead will have natural differences in size or appearance.

Read the documentation

If a certificate is offered, ask who issued it, what it examined and whether it identifies the same item. A document should be relevant and traceable. A decorative card repeating the product name is not the same as an independent assessment.

For an expensive or unusual bead, consider assessment by an appropriately qualified independent specialist. Understand the limits of that assessment rather than assuming a stamp proves every claim about origin or spiritual effect.

Choose for the way you will use it

A meditation mala, a single pendant and a daily bracelet have different practical requirements. Check weight, stringing, fit and care. If wearing it against your skin causes irritation, stop and investigate the physical cause.

Spiritual rules around Rudraksha vary across traditions. You can ask a trusted practitioner about your practice without accepting pressure to buy the rarest or most expensive option.

For an October purchase, begin with a clear purpose and a comfortable budget. A modest, well-described item is easier to choose responsibly than one sold through urgency, fear or promises that it will solve every difficulty.

Does an expensive bead automatically have stronger benefits?

Price does not establish spiritual effectiveness. It may reflect rarity, size, sourcing or marketing, so ask what the price actually represents before deciding.
